What type of beer is Lervig No Worries Pineapple?
Lervig No Worries Pineapple is an IPA but as it is flavoured with pineapple it is a little bit of fruit beer as well. Perhaps we will call it a fruit IPA.
IPAs are India pale ales. They are hoppy and when alcoholic, strong beer. As they are from the ale family, they are top fermented and use ale yeast.
Fruit beers have the addition of 1 or more fruits to significantly flavour the beer. In this case pineapple is being used. I don’t think i have drank a pineapple beer but some of the hops used give you tropical fruit flavours so why not?
The Ingredients
In a fruit beer you have every right to expect to see the fruit in the ingredients. What i want to look for is just the plain fruit or juice and not some chemical type flavouring.
Lervig No Worries Pineapple includes…
- Water
- Barley
- Wheat
- Hops
- Yeast
- Natural pineapple flavour
Hmm, what is natural pineapple flavour if not just some actual pineapple? Im not a brewer so don’t know the intricate issues with using specific ingredients but I’ve drank plenty of fruit beers that use the actual fruit
The Nutrition
The base for this beer is the plain Lervig No Worries IPA. It already had quite a high sugar level so with some sweet pineapple will that have increased?
| Values per 100ml or 100g |
Alcohol | 0.5% |
Calories | 22kcal |
Carbohydrate | 4.9g |
Sugars | 4.5g |
I’m surprised and pleased that the nutrition stats have stayed the same. What was a high sugar level for an IPA is now more in keeping with a fruit beer so i am hopeful for the taste of this beer.

The Look
The distinctive can art from Lervig is unmistakable. Their alien spaceman is popping his head through the ground and meeting a lot of pineapples.
The beer itself is a light orangey golden type colour with a decent foamy head that is lasting.
The Aroma
Well if you have a pineapple IPA you would be disappointed if you cant smell pineapple but luckily there is spades of it here.
You can maybe pick out some additional citrus from the hops but that is about all.

The Taste
Ohh, I think they have got this pretty much spot on. On initial drink you get quite a strong pineapple syrup flavour which builds up and you think it will get too much. A second later it starts to change into bitter hops and fades away more on the bitter side than sweet pineapple.
The hops is also adding a slightly sharper note than the pineapple which contrasts nicely.
There is a slight undertone of “Polly Pineapple” type ice lolly from my childhood which adds an extra nostalgia dimension. This might be a highly regional lolly so sorry if the reference goes past you!
I think you can forget about the malted grain flavours here, it’s all about hops and pineapple.
The carbs and sugar make for a big enough body and mouthfeel. There is a sweetness to this, of course there is, but I think it is controlled well and doesn’t get too much despite the headline sugar number.
The Verdict
All in all a nice fruit IPA. If you like pineapple flavours then this is a must try. It is rather unique in my experience.
It would make a great break from more traditional malt forward pale beers like a lager
The Score
8/10 – I’m surprising myself with this rating but I did enjoy it. I think it is worth a try at least.
